1996 Freightliner with 50’ Custom Trailer

Present owner acquired this Freightliner in 2001 to participate in personal classic car and wooden boat shows, so it had to be flexible for towing its 50’ custom enclosed car trailer or a separate 50’ boat trailer.

Owner’s collection manager spent some time searching for the right rig, this one had had a minor fender bender (no frame or any serious damage), and this was the cleanest and best example available.  For those knowledgeable with Freightliner reliability, it is hardly broken in with only approximately 535,000 miles from new.  In frame full rebuild done at about 525,000 miles.

Under its present ownership, the Freightliner has been driven sparingly having made a couple of trips to the East Coast, with most of its travel between Southern California and Pebble Beach, Lake Tahoe and other nearby destinations transporting personally owned antique wooden boats and classic cars to shows. Designed with creature comfort driving in mind as the owner’s collection manager/driver was demanding for his personal comfort and safety as the owner is for the safety of his boats, cars and staff.

Stored last five years in our owned secure industrial park, recent work to make it roadworthy included the following: Rebuilt starter, replaced starter solenoids, replaced heavy duty batteries. Could use a wax job and minor paint touch up where paint has weathered on left front fender.

The Enclosed Trailer

  • Approximately 50’ inside length
  • Heavy duty chassis
  • Seller owned the trailer chassis as an open wooden boat hauler.  In 2001 its heavy duty chassis was custom built into an enclosed trailer for classic cars.  It was built to transport both a high clearance 1910 Rolls Royce and a lower clearance “J” Duesenberg accounting for its different front and rear elevations.
  • General storage forward
  • Side man door
  • 12,000 pound Warn winch and stainless cable.
  • Pair of 12’ long ramps
  • Triple axle
  • 6 wheel brakes
  • Interior lighting
  • Mylar on inside walls and ceiling.  While it is usable as-is the next owner may wish to realign the Mylar which has mildly warped due to movement for aesthetic purposes. Also, minor ceiling Mylar damage (one panel fell off) from leaky roof vent, since repaired.
  • Minor sheet metal dent top left side of trailer.  See it circled in photo.  Not structural and can easily patched if desired.
  • 80% tires, covered during storage

·         5th wheel trailer hitch is reversed on truck and trailer (old trucker’s security trick), easily returned to normal if desired.

  • Clear California title, registration not current.
